How to Get to the Sagrada Família: Metro Routes and the Right Entrance

The station is easy to identify; the last few minutes deserve a plan too. Match your metro route, entrance and guide meeting point to your actual booking.

For most visitors, the useful destination is not just the Sagrada Família building: it is the correct entrance or meeting point for a timed booking. Start with the Sagrada Família metro station on L2 or L5, then check the final walking section on your confirmation. A map pin in the middle of the basilica cannot tell you which queue you need.

Which metro station and line should you use?

The station is called Sagrada Família and is served by the purple L2 and blue L5 lines. Choose the line that makes sense from your starting point rather than changing trains just to approach from a particular side. On the day, check TMB's live route planner for disruptions, station access and the walking section from the selected exit.

Starting pointUseful route to checkWhat not to overlook
Barcelona SantsL5 from Sants Estació towards Vall d'HebronLeave time to move from your train platform into the metro.
Passeig de GràciaL2 towards Badalona Pompeu FabraA station interchange or entrance may involve more walking than the map suggests.
Barcelona–El Prat AirportL9 Sud to Collblanc, then L5 towards Vall d'HebronCheck airport-ticket validity and allow for the terminal walk and transfer.

From Sants: treat the train arrival and metro trip separately

Sants Estació is on L5, so a direct metro journey to Sagrada Família is possible without another line change. That does not mean the journey starts the moment a mainline train stops. Add time for the platform exit, metro signs, ticket purchase or validation and waiting for the train. A delayed intercity service is a reason to avoid a tightly timed basilica reservation straight after arrival.

From the airport: one transfer, but not one guaranteed journey time

L9 Sud serves both airport terminals. Collblanc connects to L5, which you can take towards Vall d'Hebron for Sagrada Família. This is a possible all-metro route, not a promise that it is always fastest. Compare the live alternatives from your terminal, especially if you first need to drop luggage at your accommodation.

Airport metro stations have special ticket-validity rules. TMB lists the ordinary single ticket and T-casual among the products that are not valid for airport access on L9 Sud. Check the current airport information before buying a pass; a ticket that works elsewhere on the network is not automatically sufficient at Aeroport T1 or T2.

Find Carrer de la Marina, not just a famous façade

The basilica identifies the general entrance for individual visitors at the Nativity façade on Carrer de la Marina. Follow current signs and staff directions when you arrive. Do not assume that every staircase, tour group or photogenic façade is a visitor entrance. Groups have their own access arrangements on the same street.

For a guided tour sold by another provider, the meeting point may be outside the basilica and away from the general entrance. Follow the provider's voucher first, including its requested check-in time. Going straight through security can mean missing the guide even though you have reached the correct monument.

Accessibility and a realistic arrival margin

The official FAQ directs visitors with disabilities or reduced mobility to entrance B on Carrer de la Marina. Check the accessible metro route as well as the venue entrance: an accessible destination does not make every station exit suitable. If assistance is important, contact the venue ahead of the visit.

As practical planning advice, aim to reach the required entrance or meeting point with some spare time; the precise check-in instruction on your booking takes priority. Do not treat an advance ticket as permission to arrive late: the basilica says tickets are valid for the selected entry time. Take exterior photos after finding your entrance, not while still searching for it.

Route sources, not fixed travel-time promises
